Bass Lake Rocks

Wirth memorial

January 16, 2019

As most of you know by now, Otto Wirth passed away on November 5, 2018. Health complications eventually got the best of him. Hopefully he’s in a better place with Nona. She preceded him in death in 2017.  The Wirth’s were active members and investors of the Bass Lake golf course for many years. They donated many, many trees which now adorn our golf course. He also donated the aerator for the pond adjacent to the #9 green and, for many years, they maintained the grounds next to the pond along the roadway. Otto played golf, but was not a model golfer. Golf equipment was sometimes abused and, at times, the language was quite colorful. In any event, he was fun and entertaining to be with on the golf course and at the Club.

It is appropriate that we recognize Otto and Nona’s involvement and contributions to the Bass Lake Club by establishing a memorial in their names. A project under consideration and endorsed by the Board, is the construction of a pergola on the deck atop the pro shop and adjacent to the bar. This would provide a shaded area and an open space for those who want to enjoy the sunshine. The addition would be an excellent place to enjoy lunch or a nice environment for early evening spirits, while taking in the beauty of our grounds and golf course. The family has reviewed this project and memorial. They are supportive of the plan. Needless to say, the pergola area would be an attraction for golfers, visitors and guests. To be sure, it would be a great added addition to our golfing, bar and restaurant facilities. The estimated cost is approximately $5,000.

Of course, the pergola project will not happen without financial assistance from friends, neighbors, club members and investors. Therefore, we ask that you consider donating to this project. Please send your check in the name of the Bass Lake Golf Course to W10650 Bass Lake Road, Deerbrook, Wisconsin 54424 and be sure to note in the memo section of your check- “The Wirth Memorial”.
